what to do with your digital images after your photo session
You booked the photographer
picked out outfits
had a fun time at your session
fell in love with the final photos
and bought the digital images.
Congratulations!
Now what??
Great question!
Years from now, no one is going to say, “Hang on, let me go get that jump drive so we can look through it together!” We’ve got to have to plan for making it easy to enjoy the photos over and over again.
So let me share my top 3 ways to do that!
1. Albums
Absolutely without a doubt, this is my favorite way to enjoy lots of photos year after year! This is why my top collection includes an album of the images from your session. I design it for you, so there’s no more work on your part!
I tend to give large galleries, and unless you live in a mansion, you’d likely run out of wall space pretty quickly to get a bunch hung up year after year. But albums let you flip through and get the sense of your session’s story over just a single portrait.
Kids LOVE to flip through albums and remember how little they used to be. And albums don’t force you to choose a small handful of photos. You get the whole experience!
The albums I offer are from my professional lab, but if you’re wanting to design one yourself you could certainly do that! I can give you some other consumer vendors as recommendations if you want to go that route!
2. Large prints
Ok, this probably sounds contradictory to the one about albums, but I adore large prints. Like really large prints!
There’s something dramatic and fun about really using your wall space to its maximum.
There are tons of templates on Pinterest to help you design a really cool gallery wall of varying sizes of framed prints, canvases, metal prints, etc.
Try it next time you’re looking to hang a portrait. Try going way bigger than you think. Start with 20x30 and see what a statement it makes! I personally like to group several really large prints on the wall to tell a story, so you could hang an individual of each child and then a family portrait, etc.
A little tip is that for most larger open walls, anything 8x10 or smaller is probably too small. Don’t be afraid to GO BIG! I think you’ll love it!
3. Print box
This one is kind of similar to the album in that it allows you to have lots and lots of photos in print form, but they’re all contained in a pretty box! This can sit on a coffee table or desk and lets people touch the photos one by one.
It is something you’d want to be more careful with since the photos are going to be handled, but there’s just something about holding a photo in your hand that is so special. And we just don’t do it enough anymore!
Print boxes are something I offer in your gallery once you receive it, and I just love when clients choose this option!
Get them out!
I know it can feel overwhelming after you’ve downloaded your digital images. This is actually what I don’t offer a million different choices of products. These three are for sure my very favorite, and I’m happy to chat with you about any of them (or others!) if you’re unsure what to do with those gorgeous digital files!
The main thing is to get them off your computer and out where they can be enjoyed!
Speaking of gorgeous, here is some favorites from this family photo session. This sweet little girl just had a birthday, and she just gets more and more fun year after year!
I’m going to be opening up my fall calendar very soon for 2020! But you can go ahead and contact me if you’d like first dibs on a date!
